“…It’s summer solstice…May love surround you like sunshine on a sunny day.”

-William Shakespeare. A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Since ancient times, summer solstice has been celebrated and perceived as one of the most powerful days for spiritual growth and healing. Summer solstice is the longest day + shortest night of the year in the northern hemisphere and falls between June 20th – 22th each year. It is that moment when the tilt of the Earth brings us closest to the sun and marks the official start of summer for a lot of us.

It is known to be a day for both reflection and celebration of what has been given and grown. In traditional chinese medicine, summer is the season of the fire 火 element and is associated with the Heart organ. Fire purifies and energizes, giving us the ability to move forward with confidence. Vibrationally, summer solstice is a time when the Solar Plexus chakra is high. The Solar Plexus chakra is the energy center where we find our inner fire and warrior strength.

To honor this shift in our energies, there are some meaningful ways to tune in with the transition and welcome summer with an open heart.

Purify your space and set new intentions: with a new season comes new beginnings and summer solstice offers us an opportunity for cleansing and renewal. Start that day with a white sage cleansing ritual in every room of your house to purify your space. Use this powerful time to set new intentions and make the best out of this energy that is within you and surrounding you.

Take a sun bath and absorb the sun’s fire within your body. Let the fire inside of you gives you empowerment and confidence. Let it be at the beach, in your backyard or even your balcony, lie on your back and close your eyes. Breathe deeply and feel grounded, feel the sun rays into your body and picture it growing as it gets in contact with your inner fire.

Watch the sunset and reflect on your own life. Take the time to reflect on what you have achieved and feel proud of. Summer is the time to acknowledge every accomplishment and hard work. It is also a time to think of what you are ready to let go in your life in order to grow.

Connect with the nature. Summer is a time when we naturally feel like spending more time outdoors. So go outside, soak in the sunlight, go for a walk in the park, swim and dance through the waves. Show gratitude to the nature and why not bring nature to your home with some flowers or a plant.

Ground down and rise up with a yoga flow. Feel the empowering effect of this supercharged day with some yoga practice. Take advantage of the extended daylight by choosing to flow outdoors and open up and move your body, remove any tension and stress to leave you feeling calm and grounded.

Whatever you choose to do on that day, go with the flow and let your intention guide you. Live in the moment and let the light grow stronger within you.
